Atlanta Zoo Free Admission Every Atlanta-Fulton Public Library branch has one pass to Zoo Atlanta that admits two adults and two children FREE of charge. You may be able to take a tax credit for qualifying expenses paid to adopt an eligible child (including a child with special needs). The adoption credit is an amount subtracted from your tax liability. For expenses paid prior to the year the adoption becomes final, the credit generally is allowed for the year following the year of payment. A taxpayer who paid qualifying expenses in the current year for an adoption which became final in the current year, may be eligible to claim the credit for the expenses on the current year return, in addition to credit for expenses paid in a prior year.The adoption credit is not available for any reimbursed expense. In addition to the credit, certain amounts paid by your employer for qualifying adoption expenses may be excludable from your gross income. EXXONMOBIL Bernard Harris Summer Camps Exxon Mobil, in conjunction with Dr. Bernard Harris and the Harris Foundation, will offer the ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp Program in the Atlanta area at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Harris is a former NASA astronaut who created this camp. The camp dates for Atlanta are June 21st-July 2nd. The two week camp is designed for under privileged middle school students across the country and provides a fun-filled setting for them to gain a deeper understanding of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and to promote careers in science. The camp is free and all students expenses are paid for by the program. Registration deadline is May 1, 2009. For more information contact Rayshun Dorsey at 678-861 9165 or visit the website at www.theharrisfoundation.org. 2009 CCAI Foster Youth Internship Program The Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute’s ( CCAI ) Foster Youth Internship (FYI) Program is a competitive, highly esteemed Congressional Internship for young adults who were in U.S. foster care at the time of their eighteenth birthday or who were adopted after their fourteenth birthday from the U.S. foster care system. All applicants must be enrolled in college and have completed 4 semesters by May 21, 2009. The 2009 program will place 16 academically successful college students in the Washington , D.C. offices of Members of Congress. The dates for the 2009 Congressional Foster Youth Internship are set as May 23 – July 18, 2009.
